Aptly known as a duo as Leipana, Jordan Rapana and Joey Leilua have forged a tremendously proficient partnership on their flank for the Canberra Raiders.
In a boost for the club and a welcome sight for their fans, that partnership will continue as Leilua re-signs with the club until the end of the 2020 season.
Since his arrival in 2015, Leilua has been a strong performer for the Raiders side alongside Rapana, as the club look to secure their key performers for the long-term.
“Joey has taken his game to another level since joining the club and we’re excited about what he can bring to the team over the next couple of seasons,” said Raiders CEO, Don Furner.
“We’re working on securing a squad which will represent the club long-term and Joey is a very important part of that.”
For Leilua, the decision was easy in the end given the culture of the club and the community spirit in Canberra.
“The culture and staff we have here, that’s what made me stay,” said Leilua.
“The community as well, the people around Canberra, I just love it.”
A talented individual player in his own right, Leilua knows that if he and others are to get better, they have to continue working together as a team and a cohesive unit.
“If we perform as a team, individually, everyone will get better,” he continued.
Making his name in the NRL at Newcastle, Leilua admits that Canberra has now become his home.
“Canberra is my home now,” said Leilua excitedly.
“Have a family now and a little one that loves it here as well as my missus, so we’d like to stay here for a while.”
