Elgey opts for early retirement from rugby league

Now retired Manly Sea Eagles half Kane Elgey

Perhaps a surprise to many, Kane Elgey has opted to retire from the NRL. Citing a loss of love for the game, the former Gold Coast Titans and Manly Sea Eagles half confirmed it via his Instagram.

Despite having a year left to run on his deal with Manly, Elgey had to be true to himself and make the decision.

“After months of consideration, I have decided to officially retire from the NRL and move back home,” Elgey wrote on his Instagram account.

“I just know deep down I don’t love it like I used to and when you lose that it’s very hard to keep doing it at a high level.”

After a solid start to his NRL career in 2015 with the Titans, just as he was set to soar, an ACL injury struck in 2016.

From there, he struggled to reach the same heights and make a true impact, prompting a move to Manly.

He performed strongly at his new team but was soon replaced by young half Cade Cust.

“It’s been a roller coaster ride and I’m stoked with what I’ve achieved in a short time!,” continued Elgey.
