Holmes returns to NRL with Cowboys on long-term deal

Returning NRL player Valentine Holmes

Six years is a long time in rugby league but it’s the contract that has seen Valentine Holmes return to the NRL with the North Queensland Cowboys.

The mega deal will see Holmes donning the Cowboys colours right through until the end of the 2025 season.

Having previously played 105 NRL games for the Cronulla Sharks, Holmes left at the end of 2018 to pursue NFL opportunities.

Finishing his Sharks career strongly, it is that sort of form and tenacity that the Cowboys will want to see from him come 2020.

“This is a wonderful signing for our club,” Cowboys Director of Football Peter Parr said.

“It wasn’t long ago that Valentine was one of the best players in the competition before his courageous decision to go to the NFL.

“His form in 2018 was as good as any player in the NRL, particularly in the second half of that season.”

Parr continued to praise Holmes for his work ethic and rep honours.

“He’s a proven big game player, he’s won a grand final and he’s played some terrific football for both Queensland and Australia,” continued Parr.

“Valentine has been a top-class performer at wing and fullback and we’ve made no secret we had a desire to strengthen our outside back stocks.

“Val’s record speaks for itself and we couldn’t be more excited about securing him at the Cowboys for the next six seasons.”
