The NRL has been rocked by a new situation, with Cronulla Sharks young gun Bronson Xerri testing positive to banned ASADA substances.

Xerri will be provisionally suspended as a result of the positive test.

Xerri returned a positive A-sample for exogenous Testosterone, Androsterone, Etiocholanolone and 5b-androstane-3a,17b-diol which are prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the NRL’s Anti-Doping Policy

Xerri now has the opportunity to have his B-sample tested but cannot participate in any WADA compliant sport.

The Cronulla Sharks released a statement and would allow the investigation to run its course.

“Bronson has been stood down from training and playing responsibilities while the process runs its course, which under the policy includes the opportunity to have his B-sample analysed,” the statement said.

“The Club has been in contact with Bronson and has offered him full welfare support as he deals with this situation.”

  1. Stupid, stupid kid!!! If he conclusively tests positive, deserves the full extent of the sanctions coming.

Why did it take ASADA over 6 months to release the results? Why 2 days before the beginning of the season again?

  2. Getting the sample and verifying it, working out what he has tested positive to, checking their lists, plus the impact of COVID, the bushfires and Christmas, probably didn’t help overall.
