Manly Sea Eagles fullback Tom Trbojevic

One of the elite fullbacks in the game, Tom Trbojevic showed his skills, guiding the Manly Sea Eagles to an easy win over the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Scoring two tries and notching three try assists, Trbojevic led from the front.

It started nice and early with his first after just three minutes.

The Manly fullback was on the end of a lovely play from Moses Suli, who evaded Nick Meaney and fond Trbojevic inside.

It took a little bit longer for the second as Tom and his brother Jake combined for a well-worked try.

Jake took the line on and delivered a great late pass, catching Bulldogs defenders off-guard and Tom sliced through.

Trbojevic then turned provider, as improved centre Brad Parker scored his first when he got over the line.

Then a lovely cut out pass for Jorge Taufua to score, who passed Cliff Lyons on Manly’s all-time try-scoring list.

Another strong performer in Curtis Sironen was justly rewarded with a try.

The back-rower, picking up from where he left off before injury in 2019, bustled over to assert Manly’s dominance.

Trbojevic and Parker combined again in the second half, for the centre to score his second.

The Bulldogs would not remain scoreless, despite an insipid performance in attack.

Youngster Jake Averillo pounced on a Lachlan Lewis chip kick and raced away to score under the posts.

Another final try to Manly winger Reuben Garrick put the icing on the cake.

Though his kicking radar was off in this clash, it was a still a comprehensive win by Manly.

Despite the rule changes suiting a player like Trbojevic, he does not want to be singled out.

“I think it suits a lot of fullbacks in a way,” the Manly fullback said.

As a fullback, you’re always in the middle pushing up and supporting.

“So if people are tired, it gives you a lot more opportunities. It suits us all.”

The Bulldogs are awaiting the return of Kieran Foran but coach Dean Pay says the entire side needs to lift.

“We all need to do a better job than what we’re doing – everyone who is involved when we get some good ball,” Pay said.

“We seem to be a bit lost, a bit frantic with what we’re doing, and that causes errors.

“We’d love to have a little experience out there.”
