Wayne Bennett during one of his last stints as Queensland coach

Wayne Bennett will once again coach the Queensland Maroons, slotting in as head coach for the upcoming 2020 series.

Bennett will take over after Kevin Walters relinquished the job to take up a head coaching position with the Brisbane Broncos.

The Maroons have had Bennett as their head coach on three previous occasions and he has won five of his seven Origin series.

The last time he was in charge was from 2001-2003, with previous stints from 1985-1988 and1998.

Bennett is pleased to once again have the opportunity to coach the Maroons.

“I love coaching Queensland and I’m extremely humbled to be invited to coach this team again, particularly in light of the challenging circumstances with Kevin moving on to coach the Broncos,” Bennett said.

“I’m very proud and pleased that I’m still able to do it.

The State of Origin means so much to the people of Queensland.

“It’s been a difficult year for many people and I just want to give something back if I can.”
