He was far from impressed at the North Queensland Cowboys start but veteran forward Josh McGuire will head South to link up with the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Playing in 38 games over three seasons, McGuire had an opportunity to secure his future elsewhere and the Cowboys did not stand in his way.

“Josh had an opportunity to secure his future in Sydney and we wish him and his family well,” Cowboys Head of Football Micheal Luck said.

“Josh’s departure will further open opportunity for more game time for our talented contingent of young forwards.”

To date, McGuire has played in 232 NRL games and has represented both Australia and Samoa.

McGuire’s deal with the Dragons will run until the end of 2022 and the club is pleased to have the forward on board.

“The club has made no secret of its desire to sign an experienced forward for our current campaign and Josh certainly fits this bill,” Dragons general manager of football Ben Haran said.

“Josh’s standing in the game, both at NRL and representative level, cannot be denied and he will certainly add plenty to our current squad.

“We’re looking forward to seeing Josh hit the ground running at the Dragons upon his arrival to training later this week.”
