When looking back at the teams dwelling in the cellar of the 2019 ladder, the team that I think will definitely be pushing their way into the top 8 will be the North Queensland Cowboys.
The obvious change for the 2020 roster is the arrival of former Queensland and Kangaroo’s representative Valentine Holmes.
After what was an unsuccessful attempt at making his way into the NFL, I believe Holmes will pick up where he left off in Cronulla a few years ago.
His dynamism at the fullback position will give the Cowboys an x-factor they have been lacking since the retirement of future immortal Johnathan Thurston.
The current crop of stars will be in for a big year.
We all know the damage that Tongan international Jason Taumalolo inflicts on a weekly basis.
Add the match winning and game breaking ability of Holmes to the mix and the results could favour the Cowboys.
Anything but pushing for a finals spot this season will be deemed a failure for North Queensland and Paul Green’s spot may be on the line.
Michael Morgan and Jake Granville will also need to play a part in steering this team around the park this season.
Can the Cowboys reach their full potential in season 2020? Or will it be another year of underachievement?
