Penrith Hitting Top Gear

The Panthers are showing something they’ve lacked for oh so long, consistency. With Penrith tonight outpointing the West Tigers 26-18 in an entertaining game at CUA Stadium.

Penrith have seemingly recruited well and showed plenty of promise in the pre-season, but it looks like the team could finally be delivering after 4 wins on the trot.

What will boost the Panthers even more, is the fact that they had in excess of 20,000 on hand to watch them play some good footy against quality opposition.

The Wests Tigers displayed some of their usual scintillating attack, but were guilty at times of ‘over cooking’ things with probably too many flick passes and showboating at crucial times.

Lote Tiquiri was highly involved and dangerous on the flank, but forward Bryce Gibbs was again on the wrong end of the discipline stick – costing his team at times.

For the Panthers, it seems they are really starting to believe.

There has been no questioning the ability of Coote, but the diminutive fullback was again at the forefront – injury seems the only way that anyone will stop this kid. He has the X-Factor and when you throw in Jennings – the Penrith side can hurt you from anywhere.

While it was close until the final quarter of the match, the ability shown by these young Panthers is lifting the old heads in Lewis and Waterhouse.

So long have Lewis and Waterhouse had to soldier on in a busted side – but now they are able to do their thing and no worry about where the points will come from.

Kevin Kingston has settled in well and looks an ideal addition to the Panthers.

And when Frank Pritchard decides to play some footy, there seems no stopping this side with some massive go-forward.

If they can remain healthy, there are good times ahead for Penrith as they sit equal first atop the NRL Premiership Ladder.
