It was a bruising contest against the Wests Tigers, and it took its toll on Dragons centre Matt Cooper, as he now faces 4-6 weeks out, requiring surgery on his cheekbone, eye socket and hand.

The injury comes at a very bad time for the Dragons, as highlighted by bringing back Reece Simmonds, as they are confronted with a backs crisis, due to injuries and the Origin period.

“He [Cooper] is going in for surgery tomorrow. We’ll know a little bit more after surgery,” Dragons performance director Jeremy Hickmans said.

“He got caught in the same tackle and he did his hand in the tackle before that.

“He’s going to have them [the fracture repairs] done in the same surgery tomorrow which is quite handy.

“They’re both the same kind of time [sidelined], that 4-6 week time period.”
