As the old adage goes, ‘It ain’t over until the fat lady sings’ – and for the Bunnies, she never got the chance to sing, as a blistering final 5 minutes saw them level the scores at full-time, before an extra-time field goal from Greg Inglis, gave them the win.
For the Tigers, coach Tim Sheens summed up the loss in just a few simple words.
“You’ve got to say we blew it.”
Heading into the season as the premiership favourites, the Tigers have failed to live up to that expectation – and find themselves languishing at the bottom of the ladder, after four consecutive losses.
“It’s not panic stations yet,” said stand-in captain Benji Marshall, who did everything in his power to get the Tigers over the line with a sublime display.
“We’ve got to work our way out of it and play ourselves out of it.
“We’ve got to keep playing the way we’re playing.
“Today I thought we took a step in the right direction and we really should have won that game.”
Sheens lamented his side’s rookie mistakes, in giving away too many errors and silly penalties.
“We just gave too many penalties away,” Sheens lamented of the late meltdown.
“We walked them down there, we walked them down, we walked them down.
“We’re the most penalised side in the comp so we’ve got to do something about that.”
With a tough game coming up against Brisbane next week, Sheens knows that his side could cop even more – if results do not go their way.
“We just gave too many penalties away,” Sheens lamented of the late meltdown.
“We walked them down there, we walked them down, we walked them down.
“We’re the most penalised side in the comp so we’ve got to do something about that.”
