We all know that Perth is committed to rugby league, and for the city that are putting their hand up for a team in 2015, it is the regional areas that will strengthen their long-term growth – with a rugby league roadshow on the cards, for the Pilbara region.Â
The WARL, in conjunction with rugby league’s governing body in Australia, the ARL, as well as the One Community division – will receive support and sponsorship from Healthaway, during the roadshow.
The roadshow will go on for 7 days, with several One Community ambassadors such as NRL legends Trent Barrett, Adam MacDougall, Mario Fenech and David Peachey, all present at the week long event.
“This will be a real chance for people in regional WA to talk first hand with Rugby League’s ambassadors and to experience some really important One Community programs,†Australian Rugby League Commission Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, said today.
“Rugby League enjoys support across Australia and this visit underlines our commitment to engaging communities so that they can share in the excitement and the opportunities that are a part of our game.â€
John Sackson, the WARL CEO, said that in terms of the regional development of rugby league in the area, he is encouraged by the committed approach that has been shown by the new Independent Commission.
“The WARL is very grateful to the ARLC for their belief and investment in this One Community initiative which will not only strengthen the foundations of the game in the Pilbara Region, but will also enrich the local communities by way of inspirational health, education and wellbeing messages delivered by some of the legends of Rugby League.â€
A film crew will be sent by the NRL to document the trip in its entirety, with stories already planned for not only the NRL Footy Show, but also for other media outlets.
Fundraisers will be hosted in Karratha and Port Hedland, which will give all locals a chance to mingle with some rugby league legends – with all funds raised to go towards the development of rugby league in the Pilbara region.
