David Fa'alogo

Players generally head to the English Super League to escape, but after such time, they feel the need to once again return to the NRL – and for former South Sydney Rabbitoh and Huddersfield Giants forward David Fa’alogo, this was exactly the case, as he signed a one-year deal with the Newcastle Knights.

Fa’alogo, who has played in 142 NRL games to date, is a player that Knights coach Wayne Bennett is pleased to see return to the NRL, particularly under his tutelage at the Newcastle Knights.

“David is coming here on a one year contract, with an option for a second year if he performs in 2013,” Bennett said.

“He wanted to finish his career in Australia and at a Club that is going places; that is pretty much the conversation we had.

“He is coming here for the right reasons; he isn’t coming here for the money, but he feels he owes a lot to rugby league and wanted to come and finish his career in Australia playing good footy.”

Bennett is excited to have another veteran join the Knights side, particularly after the success of Danny Buderus, who returned to the NRL last year.

“I worked with David in 2008 at the World Cup Final and I liked what he brought to the team,” Bennett added.

“He has been overseas for three years, the same as Danny and we have all seen what he brought back.

“People who have played with or against David will tell you he is a good player and he is the type of player I like to coach; committed and you know they are going to get the job done.”
