You know of Dane Gagai, so now, get ready for the next Gagai brother to officially join the NRL world – with Dane’s younger brother Jacob Gagai, close to signing a 3-year deal with the Newcastle Knights.
Should the deal eventuate, Jacob will live with his brother Dane and fellow Knights team-mate Alex McKinnon, as they plan to share a house.
“I’ll go down some time in November, I’m not sure of the exact date,” the Souths U18 player said.
“I’m really excited about it.
“Having Dane there will be a big bonus.
“People think I’m going there just because Dane’s there, but I’m going there to play my football and do my best.
“I’ll be doing pre-season training with the under-20s and I’ll do my best and hopefully it will all fall into place.”
Dane, who is currently in Mackay on an off-season break, after watching his team-mate Alex McKinnon captain the Australian Junior Kangaroos to victory – said he was looking forward to rooming with his brother.
“I’m going to love it having him down there, it’s going to be good,” he said.
“We get on well, no problems at all.”
Both are the sons of Ray Gagai, a former five-eighth for the Brisbane Broncos – with Jacob looking forward to working hard to hopefully nab a spot in the NYC side.
“They’ll have six weeks of training before Christmas,” Jacob said.
“I’ll come back for Christmas and go back to Newcastle and they will start trial matches early in the year.
“They have not said anything about what team I’ll be playing in but I’m going to train my heart out, play good football and see where it goes from there.”
