With rugby league in Fiji constantly thriving, the need for added competition and stellar performances becomes even more important, with the game to receive a boost, as the Delta rugby league club become the latest team to join the Fijian National Rugby League.

Whilst it will not be a whole new club, given the team will still be based out of Nausori, where the former Nausori Bulldogs used to play – the new name for the team based in the region, is yet to be decided.

The new Nausori based club have shown keen interest to be involved in the FNRL, with several other teams joining the competition.

Sale Tubuna, the FNRL Development Officer, says that the talks to have a new Nausori based club, have been ongoing.

“Yes, we have been talking with officials from the club who are eager to join the competition next year. They are not new to rugby league as we usually have the Nausori Bulldogs competing before,” Tubuna said.

Ovalase Toduadua, who is a club official for the Nausori based club, wants to see those who are interested in playing make themselves known, as the love for rugby league in Nausori grows.

“We will soon be going to Nausori to teach them more about rugby league. It is good news to us that more clubs are interested in joining the competition,” Tubuna said.

Whilst the total number of teams in the FNRL for next season are yet to be confirmed, Tubuna did confirm Lomainasau have confirmed their participation, receiving a new set of jerseys for the season.

“Everything have been finalised for these two clubs, they will be competing next year.”
