It may not necessarily be a move or decision that is taken lightly, but in some instances, it has to be done – as former NRL player Steve Southern and the Wakefield Wildcats have agreed to end Steve’s stint with the club prematurely, despite 2 years remaining on his current deal.

Southern, who joined the Wildcats from the Newcastle Knights just this season, made only limited appearances, as a resul of injury.

The former Cowboys and Knights player will return to Australia, as both he and the club agree to a mutual termination of his contract.

“Steve had two years left to run but things didn’t quite work out for him for one reason or another, and he’s gone back to Australia,” said Wildcats coach Richard Agar.

“All parties were in complete agreement that this was the right thing to do and we wish Steve all the best.”
