It may have been a trial, but that was not to stop the Bulldogs fans making the trek to Belmore to watch their side take on the Newtown Jets – as new recruit Tony ‘T-Rex’ Williams made a solid first impression for his new club in the 34-16 win over the Newtown Jets.
Wiliams joined his new first-grade team-mates in the second half of the clash, playing on the right hand side along Josh Reynolds and Krisnan Inu, immediately making an impression on the game.
Despite the formation, however, Bullogs coach Des Hasler said it is something they can work with and fine-tune as the trials go on.
“It’s something we can work with,” Hasler said.
“Some sides might think it’s good that he (Williams) might play on the right side but then you’ve got someone like a Josh Jackson or a Frank Pritchard coming at you.”
For Williams, whilst pleased with his opening game but not fussed as to the position he’ll be playing – it was more about reuniting with former coach Des Hasler, that has T-Rex most excited.
“It’s a bonus for me that he’s here. I’m only going to improve being under him,” Williams said of Hasler.
“It doesn’t really bother me (where I play). I’m just here to do my best for the team and that’s what’s best for the team – that’s what I have to do.”
