Richard Horne

When you enter your 16th season with one club, it is safe to assume that you will go down as one of the club’s most loved and adored players – and for Hull FC halfback Richard Horne, he is well and truly seen in that light by fans, after signing a 1-year contract extension.

As the saying goes, ‘age is but a number’, a saying that rings true for Horne, who put on a man-of-the-match performance against Bradford last week, guiding his side to victory.

Injuries have been a bit cruel to Horne of late, but feeling better now than he ever has, the possibility of surpassing 350 games for the club is fast approaching.

“I’m enjoying my rugby and probably feeling fitter now than I have for a long time,” he said.

“I’ve had a good pre-season under my belt and I’m not carrying little niggles into the season which makes a big difference and I can be fully focused on keeping my place in the team.

“Pete has explained that every place is up for grabs. Buster (Brett Seymour) has had a run in the halves alongside DJ (Daniel Holdsworth) and I got my chance at the weekend too, so we’re all pushing hard and it keeps you on your toes.”

For Horne, playing for Hull is what he loves doing and he could not imagine playing for any other side in the Super League .

I’m pleased the club have offered me another year, I still know I’ve got plenty of footy in me and I can’t see myself playing anywhere other than Hull.

“It’s my club and my town and I’ll keep giving it all I can until the day I know it’s time to hang up the boots.

“At the minute, I’m loving every minute of it, we have a great team of lads and a lot of belief about what we can achieve and that is something we all want to be a part of.”
