Bryson Goodwin

All teams have star players but all teams also have under-rated players, players that escape the spotlight but go about their business on the footy field – and for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, they have rewarded two of the players of this mold with new deals.

Those two players are Bryson Goodwin and Dave Tyrrell, both re-signing with the Bunnies until the end of the 2015 NRL season.

Tyrell, who has come through the ranks at the Bunnies having played in the Under 20’s competition and the NSW Cup, has developed into a key front-row forward in the rotation for Souths, with the so far one-club man excited to have re-signed.

“Souths gave me my opportunity to play in the NRL and I’m really excited to be able to stay for two more years,” Tyrrell said.

“I’m really happy that I can be part of this group and I think there are more good times to come.

“In saying that, I’m just concentrating on this year at the moment and getting ready for Friday’s game against the Tigers.”

For the 27-year old Goodwin who joined Souths at the start of the season and with 85 career games to date, he had to work hard to earn a spot and has so far put in some stellar performances, with the centre also pleased to have re-signed.

“I’m really happy to get the chance to stay here at Souths,” Goodwin said.

“I think we’re a Club on the rise and we’re playing some good footy and I’m sure we’ll get the chance to play more good footy together in the coming seasons.

“It’s a great Club and everyone has made me feel very welcome and part of the family and I’m looking forward to the rest of this season and the seasons ahead.”

Also pleased to have retained the duo at Souths is coach Michael Maguire, who sees the duo as important pieces for the club moving forward and looks forward to further development from both of them.

“This is great news for the Club and we’re all looking forward to working with Dave and Bryson for an extended period,” Coach Maguire said.

“In my time at the Club, Dave has worked hard and continually improved his game. He’s a reliable player that has been very solid for us every time he has had the opportunity.

“He adds great depth to our front row and I’m glad he’ll be with us for at least the next two years.

“From day one Bryson has shown great professionalism in how he goes about his training and his preparation for games.
“He’s also worked extremely hard to take his opportunity and he’s doing a great job for us.

“He’s overcome a big injury from last year and he’s showing what he can do on a regular basis.

“He brings a lot of experience to our backline having played at the international level for New Zealand, and hopefully he can get back to that level playing with us at the Rabbitohs.”
