Retaining your strongest players is valuable moving forward and for the Wigan Warriors, they have re-signed international hooker Michael McIlorum on a new long-term 4-year deal.
Still only 26, McIlorum has played in 166 games for Wigan since making his debut back in 2007. Also in that time, he has become an elite member of the English national squad.
For the club, they are thrilled to have re-signed the talented hooker.
“I am delighted that Micky has signed this new deal with us,” said Head Coach, Shaun Wane.
“He already had a contract to see him through to November 2016 and this has now been extended for a further 12 months. His improved terms for the next three years are also just reward for his outstanding performances week in week out whilst wearing the famous Wigan shirt.
He is an exceptional player and is one of the first names to go on our team sheet because of his whole-hearted commitment and high levels of performance.”
“He has a great attitude both on and off the field and I have seen him develop through our own Wigan-System since joining the Club as a 16 year old and quite rightly he is now rated as one of the best hookers in the world.”
For the man himself, he too is pleased to have signed a new deal at a club he loves.
“I thoroughly enjoy playing for Wigan and the successes of the last few seasons have made me even hungrier to achieve more with the Club,” said McIlorum.
“I am pleased to have put pen to paper on an extended deal with Wigan and am really looking forward to the rest of the season ahead. I am confident we can build as a team on our achievements of 2013.”
