Jayson Bukuya

It was not that long ago that he left the club but in a move that pleases the majority of Cronulla Sharks fans, back-rower Jayson Bukuya will return to the club on a 2-year deal.

It this time last year before the 2013 season, that Bukuya left the club and crossed the Tasman, joining the New Zealand Warriors.

With one year left to go on that contract, he was granted a release on compassionate grounds and as a result, rejoined the Sharks.

“Footy is like love. If you love someone, let them go and if they come back, it’s meant to be,” Bukuya said.

And on a more serious note, he added.

“I’m happy to be wearing the sky blue, black and white again and I’m looking forward to it. We’ll definitely be a competitive team this year.”

With Shane Flanagan back at the helm as head coach, he has seen plenty of Bukuya over the years and is pleased to have the back-rower back at the club.

“I am excited to have Jayson back at the club. He has many friends at the Sharks and the playing group are pleased to see him back,” Flanagan said.

“Jayson’s last season with us was outstanding, which attracted interest from other clubs and I know Jason can get back to that sort of form and add some strike on our edge.

“He returns at such important time in the clubs history and I am sure Sharks fans are also pleased to see him back at Remondis,” Flanagan added.

Still only 25, Bukuya has his best years ahead of him and with his signing, the Sharks now have strong back-row depth which is crucial in the modern game.

Additionally, the Sharks also signed Todd Murphy, a talented half from Brisbane. Murphy, who was playing for the Norths Devils, finished second in the Courier-Mail Medal last year and is excited to join the Sharks for one year.

“It’s a great opportunity for me, a chance to play in the NRL is what you work towards,” Murphy said.

“I’ll do my best and see how it goes.”
