Elliott Whitehead

In a huge signing for the Canberra Raiders, 2016 will see the welcoming of current Catalan Dragons player, Elliot Whitehead.

The English international has signed a 2-year deal starting from 2016 with the Raiders and with 150 first-class games to his name, he brings a ton of experience.

At only 25, Whitehead has also played for Bradford since making his debut in 2009.

He was a part of the English Four Nations squad and played in one game, with the club pleased to add such an exciting player to their forward pack in 2016.

“Elliott is a young but experienced first grade player who will join us at the end of the season after an impressive career so far in the English Super League,” said Canberra Raiders CEO, Don Furner.

“We’ve seen so far this season the positive impact players like Josh Hodgson and Sia Soliola have had on our squad and we look forward to Elliott continuing this for our club.”

Playing in the NRL has always been a strong ambition for Whitehead and with this opportunity, he is keen to make the most of it.

“After enjoying two and half years here in France, I have been given the opportunity to go and play in the NRL next season which I have always wanted to do,” said Whitehead.

“I would like to thank the club and the fans for everything they have done for me and I’m still fully committed to the Dragons this season.”

“Whilst I will be sad to leave, I am also looking forward to the future.”

Playing in 43 games for Catalans since his arrival and scoring 24 tries, club coach Laurent Frayssinous knows how much of a loss Whitehead will be.

“Since he arrived at the club, he has always given his best on and off the field to help the team,” said Frayssinous.

“I’m sure he will stay in the heart of the Catalans fans but before his move, he has a job to finish under the Dragons jersey.”
