He was hot property on the open market given the way he was playing and the wraps that come with him but that is all over, as Joe Ofahengaue re-signs with the Brisbane Broncos.
The hulking forward who has made a name for himself in the NRL so far and will continue to do so, rejected overtures from bitter rivals the Gold Coast Titans and re-signed with Brisbane for the next two years.
Playing in the front-row, the interest has been plentiful and the Ipswich Brothers junior is pleased to remain with the club.
“Firstly, I just want to say I am very thankful that everyone at the club has looked after me to give me an extension for another two years,” Ofahengaue said.
“I was always keen with my family here, to stay as close to home as I can.
“I knew I just had to keep playing good footy (and things would work out).â€
The nephew of former Wallaby Willie Ofahengaue, the Broncos prop has also played in the Junior Kangaroos squad and excelled there as well.
With five games in his NRL career to date, Ofahengaue knows that the key is to keep playing good footy and to develop himself as a player and a person.
“I didn’t really think I was going to get a call up until the Origin round,” he said.
“But it came early and I was blessed and thankful for that.
“I just have to keep playing good footy and doing what the club needs.”
