Damien Cook

Many were wondering just who was going to fill the void left by Issac Luke’s departure but that question has been answered, with the South Sydney Rabbitohs confirming the signing of Damien Cook.

The two year deal for 2016 and 2017 will see Cook play for his third club, after previous stints for the St George Illawarra Dragons and the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Helensburgh junior made his debut in 2013 with the Dragons and his addition pleases Souths coach Michael Maguire.

“We’ve been keeping an eye on Damien for a while now having recognised his talents, particularly out of dummy half,” Maguire said.

“He’s gained great experience from what he’s done this year, he’ll add depth to our squad at dummy half, from talking to him you can see he has a professional approach to the game and his training, and we’re looking forward to having him join the team for pre-season training in November.”

There was an offer made to Cook from the Bulldogs but the Bunnies offer was simply too good to refuse, though Cook is grateful to the Dogs and Des Hasler for the opportunities.

“When I came to the Bulldogs Des told me that no matter how long I’m here, I will leave a better player, but more importantly a better man,” Cook said.

“I’ve definitely done that and I want to thank Des, the staff and the club for everything they have given me over the last two years.

Cook also made note of the friends and Bulldogs family he leaves behind, stating that they would always remain a part of him.

“It was a difficult decision and one that I took my time making but the opportunity was there and in this game, you need to take them,” said Cook.

“I will always remember my time in the blue and white fondly and I leave with many great friends that I will have for a lifetime.”
