Craig Bellamy

A prodigal son down in Melbourne, fans and players alike will be cheering to the high heavens, with the news that Craig Bellamy has re-signed as coach for a further two seasons.

His existing contract included the 2016 season, so the new contract will see him remain as Storm coach until the end of 2018.

“I obviously had a decision to make and I was determined to make it before the start of the year,” said Bellamy.

“Just to be fair to the club and to myself, so that if I had left, the club could plan.

“I really enjoyed last season and I wanted to see how I got through pre-season and some of the trials. I’ve been really enthusiastic this pre-season.

Initially, Bellamy felt like stepping down would be the right decision, after a bit of an energy-sapping year in 2014.

“It was a tough year in 2014,” said Bellamy.

“There were a few things that happened that sapped my energy a little bit.

“But I really enjoyed last year and we had some new guys come into the squad and the big 3 are still with us.

“I’ve been with them this long, so I’d like to be with them a little longer.”
