Nathan Cayless

Personal health issues have forced a change in the coaching ranks at the Parramatta Eels, with club legend Nathan Cayless named as the new coach of the Wentworthville Magpies.

Current coach Joey Grima has been forced to step aside due to personal health issues with Cayless to assume the role for the remainder of the season.

Cayless is no stranger to coaching, having been an assistant coach in 2014, Holden Cup assistant coach in 2015 and the SG Ball coach in 2016.

The contributions of Grima have not gone unnoticed, with Parramatta Eels coach Brad Arthur giving praise to both gentlemen.

“Joey works closely with the NRL and NYC coaching staff as a Development Coach as well as being the Wentworthville Magpies coach, and he brings so much to the club as a person and as a coach,” Arthur said.

“He was disappointed to have to step aside, which is typical of his dedication.”

“Nathan is obviously a household name, but he’s also showed great instincts for the job and we’re grateful to have a coach of his calibre within the club to step in.”
