Joel Thompson

On the field, their performances may be inconsistent and angering fans, but St George Illawarra fans will be pleased to know that fan favourite Joel Thompson has re-signed.

The back-rower, who has spent the last four years with the club, has signed a 2-year extension that runs until the end of 2018.

With 58 appearances for the Dragons and 147 NRL games played to date, the five-time Indigenous All-Star representative is pleased to have his future sorted with the Dragons.

“I am really pleased to be able to continue my career here with the Dragons and it was an easy decision to make,” said Thompson.

“I have been with the Club for four seasons now and it’s great to be playing alongside a terrific bunch of guys and learning under the coaching staff.”

Equally pleased are the club, who see Thompson has a crucial piece moving forward.

“Joel is a very hard-working player who lets his actions do the talking whenever he takes to the field,” said Director of Rugby League Pathways, Ian Millward.

“He is an important part of the playing group and everyone at the Club is pleased by his decision to remain for at least a further two seasons.”
