Brisbane Broncos winger Corey Oates

For a while, Corey Oates was reportedly weighing up his future with the Brisbane Broncos.

Today, he will stay with the club, signing a deal for the 2020 season.

The 2021 and 2022 seasons are option seasons, likely with the club.

Boasting an impressive record of 91 tries in 142 games of NRL, the Biloela product is pleased to stick around.

“It’s good to have things sorted,” Oates said.

“The Broncos have been great for the last 8 years or so and it’s always hard to leave somewhere – the last thing I want to do is pack up and have to start again.”

“I started last season really strong and it would be good to have that form the whole year – that’s on myself, I can fix that.”

Often critcised by the club fans for making basic errors, Oates says he is working on getting the little things right again.

“You have to manage it all and have a strong preseason, and my focus will be on getting all the little things right,” Oates continued.

Just as pleased is coach Anthony Seibold, who will look to Oates for a big season.

“We are really happy to retain Oatsey – he is a representative-quality player in the prime of his career, and we are looking forward to big 2020 season,” Seibold said.
