Newly signed Penrith Panthers back-rower Kurt Capewell

The Penrith Panthers have added a handy player to their 2020 back-row corps, signing Kurt Capewell for two seasons.

Capewell, whose debut came with the Cronulla Sharks in their 2016 premiership winning season, is excited about the move.

“I’m really excited to join Panthers and can’t wait to get started,” Capewell said.

“With the coaches and the players here, I think this club will give me a great opportunity to take my game to the next level.”

Producing solid form at the Sharks, Capewell hopes to replicate that at Penrith and earn a starting berth once more.

“My focus is to earn a starting role with consistent performances and then help the younger players in the squad find consistency as well,” Capewell continued.

“I made my NRL debut in Penrith so I already have fond memories of Panthers Stadium. I’m looking forward to being on the home team next year.”

There was high praise from Panthers coach Ivan Cleary who believes Capewell is on the cusp of Origin honours.

“Kurt is a quality player and a great team man who was deservedly on the cusp of an Origin debut this year,” Panthers coach Ivan Cleary said.

“Considering his age and NRL experience to this point, we’re confident he’s in a position to play the best football of his career here at Panthers.”
