Incoming Canterbury Bulldogs prop Luke Thompson

He was already signed for 2021 but with so much uncertainty about the Super League, Luke Thompson will play for the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2020.

Thompson, who has forged a reputation as a strong prop during his time with St Helens, gives the Bulldogs some starch and venom.

Given the ongoing pandemic, Thompson will be forced to sit out for 14 days upon arrival in Australia, the mandatory waiting period.

With 157 Super League games and a Man of the Match in last years’ grand final, the pedigree to succeed is there.

“Getting the chance to join the Bulldogs and be a part of a club with so much history and with such passionate fans is very exciting,” said Thompson.

“Having spoken to many people at the club and listened to their plans for the future, I know that they are building for success and I’m looking forward to being part of that.”

Canterbury Bulldogs CEO Andrew Hill is grateful that the opportunity panned out for Thompson to join early.

β€œIt is fantastic news that Luke will be able to arrive next week and be available to play this season after serving the compulsory isolation period,” said Hill.

“To have an International forward, seen by many as one the best front rowers in the game, arrive early is tremendous news for all of our Members and fans and a great boost for our squad for the rest of this season.”

Hill was quick to thank St Helens for allowing the move to happen early.

I must thank St Helens for enabling this to happen and Luke for showing great character in arriving early and being prepared to sit through his isolation phase before joining us,” continued Hill.

“We are hopeful that Luke will be out on the field representing the Bulldogs within the next month.”
