Now departed Wests Tigers fullback/winger Corey Thompson

It is the season for moving and Corey Thompson will join the Gold Coast Titans after being given a release by the Wests Tigers.

Thompson, who started his career with the Canterbury Bulldogs then joined English side Widnes.

A return to NRL saw him play for the Wests Tigers where he forged a strong reputation among the fans.

As times change and coaches alter tactics, the decision was made to see Thompson released.

The live-wire fullback has no regrets, though.

“I wanted to say thank you to all the Wests Tigers Members and fans for all the support and faith you’ve shown in me,” Thompson said.

“To the club, I wanted to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to come back from England and I’ve loved every second running out there and representing Wests Tigers.

“I wish the team nothing but success this year and thank you for everything.”

The signing for the Titans, which is one for three years, has coach Justin Holbrook excited.

Even more so, with the long-term absence of AJ Brimson.

“He is obviously a very good fullback with terrific speed and consistency,” Holbrook said.

“The past few weeks under the new ruck rules have shown us just how important those qualities are in the modern game.

“He brings good experience with over 100 top-level games in the NRL and Super League, he’s played in a grand final.”

Holbrook believes Thompson will be a good fit and hopes fans get around the signing.

“But most importantly brings great values to the Club in the way he prepares and good, honest qualities in the way he interacts with his coaches and teammates,” Titans coach Holbrook continued.

“He is an anticipation player, who plays what is in front of him, and a Queensland guy excited about the chance to come home.

“I think our Titans Members and fans should be very excited about what Corey will be able to produce for our Club for the next three seasons.
