New South Wales Blues coach Brad Fittler

New South Wales v Queensland at Origin time; it’s always a big thing, a big game. Everything about it.

New South Wales are flying high in recent times, having won back-to-back series.

As a result of that happening for the first time since 2004-05, coach Brad Fittler has had his contract extended.

His new one-year extension will see him remain as New South Wales Blues coach until the end of 2021.

It puts him among the longest serving Blues’ coaches behind Phil Gould and Laurie Daley.

Fittler was pleased with the level of support the board had given him.

“I am really grateful for the NSWRL Board’s strong show of faith in me and our Origin and pathways program,” Fittler said.

“It also means my coaching future won’t be a distraction throughout our preparation and defence of the Origin shield.”

Fittler, who also excelled as a player for New South Wales, knows what it means to win and being coach means a lot to him.

“I am really fortunate to have this job and it gives me great pride in seeing how much it unites the state,” Fittler continued.

“Given the year that the entire community has endured from droughts and bushfires to the COVID-19 pandemic, I can’t think of a better way to end the year and lift community spirits. I can’t wait for Origin.”
