Newly signed Canberra Raiders prop Ryan James

A popular Gold Coast Titans figure for many years, Ryan James time with the club has ended, signing a two-year deal with the Canberra Raiders.

James, who has played a valuable role on and off the field for the Titans, was a revered figure among fans and the club.

With 144 NRL games to his name to date, there was nothing but well wishes and respect from the Titans.

“Ryan gave his all on the field, but he has also given just as much off it,” said Titans CEO Steve Mitchell.

“Not unlike Preston Campbell, Ryan has developed into a community leader helping drive inclusion and social improvement outcomes.

“At this stage of his career, Ryan and his family obviously had to decide what is best for them and that means a fresh start at the Raiders.

“He moves on with our complete support and best wishes.”

James was also grateful for what the Titans have done for him but he looks forward to his new Raiders chapter.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of heading to Canberra and working with Ricky Stuart and the Raiders squad,” said James.

“The Titans have been a wonderful club for me, and I’ll be forever grateful for what they’ve done for my career.”

As the Raiders look to add further depth to their forwards, they had the utmost excitement in confirming James from 2021.

“We know what Ryan can bring to our club with his football and leadership,” said Raiders Recruitment Director Peter Mulholland.

“He’s a tremendous talent who leads by example on and off the field and we believe he will be valuable addition to our forward pack, particularly for some of our up and coming players.”
