Newly signed New Zealand Warriors prop Kane Evans

It has been a tough year for the New Zealand Warriors but they are building their roster for 2021 and have added Kane Evans for two seasons.

Evans, who is currently at the Parramatta Eels, has enjoyed a turnaround in form at the blue and gold in the last 18 months.

That form has seen him noticed by the Warriors who identified the need for prop depth, picking Evans as a main target.

Evans size brings the Warriors a big, strong mobile pack in 2021, with Ben Murdoch-Masila also added to the side.

“Kane is a really important signing for us as he brings the size, leg speed and aggression that we are looking to add to our pack,” said Vodafone Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.

“With Ben Murdoch-Masila coming, the rise of young Eliesa Katoa, Jack Murchie joining us and now Kane, it dramatically changes the dynamics of the squad.

“Kane always played in winning teams during his junior days and he brings that winning culture with him.”

Equally pleased with Evans was Warriors CEO Cameron George, who praised both his on-field play and his character.

“We couldn’t have been more impressed with Kane in our Zoom meeting,” he said.

“He displays all the qualities we are looking for and you could see the excitement in his eyes and hear the passion in his voice.”
