Their name has become synonymous in recent years at the Newcastle Knights and the Saifiti brothers (Daniel and Jacob) will both remain with the club.
The Saifiti brothers have enjoyed a solid run of form over the last couple of seasons to become mainstays of the Knights forward pack.
Jacob Saifiti’s new deal is a two-year extension and Daniel has re-signed until the end of 2026.
Both Saifiti brothers have played for Fiji and Daniel, most recently, has been a part of two NSW Origin series wins in 2019 and 2021.
Knights coach Adam O’Brien praised the resiliency and perseverance of the two brothers.
“From the moment I arrived in Newcastle, I saw two young blokes who work really hard and are hungry to constantly improve themselves,” O’Brien said.
“After a tough start to their NRL careers, it would have been easy for them to be beaten down.
“However, they chose to dig in and do all they could on and off the field to be better and that shows in what kind of players they’ve become.”
Both also drew individual praise from O’Brien, as he praised their leadership and work ethic within the Knights setup.
“Daniel is one of the most elite front-rowers in the game and an important member of our leadership group.
“He has a strong physical presence and leads with actions.
“Jacob is always really hungry to improve and is very much his own man.
“He’s determined to set his own path and is always after continual improvement. His team-first actions lead the way amongst the squad every week.”
The Saifiti brothers have been playing together for most of their careers and Daniel is pleased for that to continue.
“Jacob and I have been playing together since we were eight years old, so it’s great to secure this new deal alongside him,” he said.
“I’ve been really lucky to play at the highest level, but I rate captaining this Club as my highest achievement.
“I’m really happy with the direction the Club’s going and I’m keen to be a part of it.”
Not only brothers but best friends, Jacob is over the moon that his journey will continue at the Knights alongside his brother.
“Not only do I do something I love personally, but to do it with my best mate, my twin brother is so special,” Saifiti said.
“I definitely won’t take it for granted and we’ll do the Club proud.”
