It was not that long ago that Dane Gagai enjoyed some time with the Newcastle Knights.
Fast forward to 2022 and that is where Gagai will once again play, after signing a three-year deal with the Knights.
A Queensland Origin centre, Gagai has 220 NRL games to his name so far and has represented Australia on numerous occasions.
With three years to build on his form at current club South Sydney, Knights Head of Recruitment Clint Zammit cannot wait to see Gagai in action.
“Dane is a very good player who has enjoyed success at every level of this game,” Zammit said.
“He brings experience to our outside backs, which will not only benefit us on the field but also help with the development of our younger players who will learn from both playing and training alongside him.
“He improves our squad, and we are excited to see him back at the club.”
Someone who knows Gagai well, having played with him during his last Knights stint is club General Manager of Football, Danny Buderus.
“We couldn’t be happier to secure Dane’s signature,” Buderus said.
“Having played with Dane, I know exactly what he’s going to bring to the group.
“His representative experience and talent are close to unmatched in his position.”
Buderus also praised Gagai’s attributes both on and off the field and has backed him to act as a mentor to the younger crop coming through.
“He’s full of quality both as a person and as a player,” Buderus continued.
“I know he will positively impact the entire group, with his personality and knowledge helping to develop young players into senior leaders.”
