A second Burgess brother, George, will return to the NRL with the St George Illawarra Dragons on a two-year deal.

Burgess, who last played in the NRL with the Rabbitohs, has played in 149 NRL games in eight seasons including a premiership win in 2014.

The Dragons given to Burgess by the Dragons will see him sign on for two seasons until the end of 2023.

Still only 29, Burgess was most recently released by Super League side Wigan earlier in the year when he had to undergo major hip surgery.

Dragons General Manager of Football Ben Haran believes that Burgess can make a strong impact for the club on the field.

“George will make a significant contribution to us here at the Dragons on and off the field; his experience and career achievements will only have a positive influence on the development of the younger players currently within our squad,” Haran said.

Although Burgess is still recovering from his earlier surgery, Haran said the Dragons are working with the prop to get him right for 2022.

“While he has some obstacles still to overcome following his well-documented surgery, our medical staff have already commenced working with George on his rehabilitation.

“Everyone is committed to helping George get back to his fighting best ahead of the 2022 season, but no person more than George himself.

“We’re looking forward to him and his family joining the club.”
