The Newcastle Knights have been able to retain Lachlan Fitzgibbon on a new two-year deal.

Fitzgibbon, who is now seven years into his NRL career, has been in and out in 2021 but remains a key player no matter his role.

As a local Novocastrian, Fitzgibbon says he could not see himself playing anywhere else.

“I’ve been with the Club now since 2013, I’m a Novocastrian boy and I couldn’t see myself playing in any other colours,” Fitzgibbon said.

“We’re starting to see the improvement of our squad over the last two years with Adam and we’re looking at some bigger and better things in the near future.”

The new deal will keep Fitzgibbon at the club until the end of 2023 and Knights Head of Recruitment Clint Zammit is pleased to see him stay.

“It’s great to keep a local junior at the Club who has been here since he was 15 years old,” Zammit said.

“Lachlan has come through the grades and progressed to the NRL level, and we are very pleased he’s agreed to stay with the Club for the next two years.”
