He has enjoyed a long NRL career and for Leeson Ah Mau, retirement is now as he wants to spend more time with his family.

Ah Mau, who was off-contract having most recently played for the New Zealand Warriors, made a decision to leave midway through the 2021 season.

With a total of 223 games for the North Queensland Cowboys, St George Illawarra Dragons, and Warriors, now is family time for Ah Mau.

“That’s it for me. I’m finished with footy and now I’m putting my family first,” Ah Mau said.

“I really enjoyed my time in the game with the Warriors, Cowboys, and Dragons as well as the Kiwis and Samoa.

“I want to thank all the teams, the teammates I’ve had, and also the coaches and staff. Now I’m looking forward to spending time with my family.”

Warriors coach Nathan Brown praised Ah Mau’s consistency as a reliable player.

“Leeson’s greatest quality was his consistency in his performance and effort,” Brown said.

“He never played a bad game and could always be relied on.

“As a club, we wish him all the best in his retirement and whatever the future holds for him.”

Ah Mau also played in 16 tests for Samoa and nine Tests for New Zealand.
