A new chapter awaits Joey Leilua as the centre signs with Featherstone Rovers, currently playing in the English Championship.

Still only 29 and having most recently played for the Wests Tigers, no NRL side took a punt on him and so Leilua searched elsewhere.

It was Featherstone who came knocking with Leilua signing on at the club for 2022.

Featherstone head coach Brian McDermott believes Leilua’s experience will greatly benefit the side.

“This signing is another clear demonstration of this club’s unwavering ambition and focus on gaining Super League promotion,” Leilua said.

“Joey brings a level of experience and raw ability that is unrivalled in the Championship.”

McDermott also praised Leilua’s size and strength.

“He’ll add some serious size, strength and focussed aggression which will help this side go up to another level,” McDermott continued.

I’ve had many conversations with Joey over the last few weeks, we’re looking forward to working together to achieve our Super League objective.”

Jesse Sene-Lefao, who has played alongside Leilua for Samoa, believes the signing is a good one for the club.

“He’ll bring something that we’ve not had before, he’s like a big front-rower out wide,” Sene-Lefao said.

“He brings that skill and flair alongside size and strength that I think will be great for us next year.”
