Only signing on for an extra year may be a cause of concern for the Brisbane Broncos fans but at least it is one year longer that they keep Herbie Farnworth.

Farnworth, who has played at the Broncos since he was 15, has now donned the jersey in first-grade 51 times for 16 tries.

Farnworth says the club, the coach and his teammates, all played big roles in his decision to stay.

“I’ve been here since I was 15 and I’m really happy with all the boys and (Coach) Kevvie and all the staff – I really enjoy it here at the club,” Farnworth said.

“The past two years have been tough but to get the last five wins in a row and the direction the club is headed, that’s played a big role in my decision to stay.

“With all the players who have chosen to stay, a lot of us came through the 20s competition together – Fleggy, Kobe, Patty, Payne, Staggs – we’ve all come through together and it’s good to stay together.”

Broncos Head of Football Ben Ikin admitted that Farnworth had other options available but choosing to stay at the Broncos was a big win for them.

“Herbie is a quality player with a deep desire to keep getting better, I think we’re all seeing that in the ways he’s performed this season,” Ikin said.

“Despite having multiple options to go elsewhere, Herbie chose the Broncos, which I think is a great outcome for both parties.”
