Opportunity is everything and although he loves the Newcastle Knights, Tex Hoy knows he needs regular footy. So bring forth, Hull FC.

The livewire utility has signed a two-year deal with Hull FC with a further option in the club’s favour.

Hoy could not contain his excitement and looks forward to the challenges that playing in the Super League will bring.

“I’m really excited!,” Hoy said.

“Obviously, it’s a big move for me to be coming over from Australia, but it was a decision I made purely down to how excited I was to come.

“It’s a huge opportunity for me to play some footy, whilst being able to grow as a player and a person.”

One person who got in Hoy’s ear about Hull FC was former player and now coach Mark O’Meley, who had a stint with Hull FC himself.

“I’ve heard that Hull is a big rugby league city and I know that there are two teams that hate each other there,” Hoy continued.

“Mark O’Meley coaches me at NSW Cup level and as soon as he found out about Hull’s interest, he gave me a nudge and told me how much I would enjoy it.”

Hull FC coach Brett Hodgson waxed lyrical about Hoy and his ability, in particular, his passing and footwork.

“Tex is a natural footballer, with the ability to create opportunities with his brilliant footwork and passing game,” Hodgson said.

“He’s young and hungry to show that he can play consistently at this level; we’re really excited to have him on board for next season.”

Hodgson appears to be keen on playing Hoy in the spine and looks forward to seeing what he can do alongside Hull’s fellow recruits.

“Tex is a real creator off the back of what other people can do; he has that versatility being able to play in the halves or at full-back, but in space, he is able to play a similar way to that of Jake Connor, where he can hit that right pass at the right time, as well as having a really strong running game with speed too,” Hodgson continued.

“I’m excited to see what he can contribute in our spine next season alongside some excellent players, and we should see some really exciting combinations in our team next season as we continue to build and shape our squad.”
