Wests Tigers forward Joe Ofahengaue

Despite some he said, she said comments, the Wests Tigers have officially released Joe Ofahengaue from the remainder of his contract to sign with the Parramatta Eels effective immediately.

With the move helping the Eels current forward stocks that are decimated by injury, Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe praised Ofahengaue as a person and wished him well at his new club.

“Joe is a very well-liked player and very well respected,” said Pascoe.

“We wish Joe and his family all the best with their future, and thank Joe for his efforts over the past two and a half seasons.”

Ofahengaue, also a former Maroons representative and Tongan international, comes with some pedigree, something that the Eels forward pack misses at present due to their injuries.

Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill was quick to point this out as well as the expectation that Ofahengaue will fit in smoothly.

“Joe is a timely addition to the Eels’ squad, considering the injury status of some of our key forwards,” said O’Neill.

“His power game will suit our style of football, his NRL and Origin experience will be valuable for some of our emerging forwards and his character will be great for the overall culture of the club.

We all look forward to welcoming him and his family to the Club.”
