It may loom as a huge loss for the Canterbury Bulldogs and only time will tell but Jake Averillo will have a new home from 2024, signing with the Dolphins.
The three-year deal for Averillo at the Dolphins gives them additional pace in the backline as they continue to build a formidable squad.
His signing comes after the club also added Herbie Farnworth from 2024, with the Dolphins now possessing two very talented centres.
His departure will disappoint Bulldogs fans but the opportunity for him was one that their club was unable to provide.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for Jake,” said Bulldogs General Manager of Football, Phil Gould.
“He’s a local junior who has done a wonderful job for the Club and we wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
Dolphins CEO Terry Reader praised the signing as the club add further pieces to their roster.
“Jake is a really good acquisition for the Dolphins,” said Reader.
“He will add speed and class to our backline stocks and at the age of 22 the best years of his career are right in front of him.
“The Dolphins always said we would steadily strengthen our list in the coming years and I believe we have achieved that for season 2024.”
