Making his Brisbane Broncos debut for Tristan Sailor was a big moment and one where he excelled, as the club offer him a new two-year deal.
Sailor, who was on a development contract this season, will continue the tradition of the Sailor name being associated with the Broncos.
His father Wendell Sailor is one of the club’s greatest ever wingers and was known for his physical presence.
At 25, Sailor has had his fair share of issues in the past but has bounced back and now has a clear focus in his rugby league career.
Sailor feels indebted to the Broncos for the way they brought him in and how they have treated him.
“I’m very excited to stay here – the club has stood by me and been very good to me, so I’d like to repay the favour,” said Sailor.
“I had a long hard think but at the Broncos the environment is so good and I think we’re building a really good team and culture here at the club.
“The Broncos is such a prestigious club in its own right and then to be building our own legacy together is so awesome to filter it down through the generations.”
Sailor drew praise from Broncos coach Kevin Walters for his work ethic, determination and good form for the Broncos’ feeder team.
“Tristan has been really impressive since joining us at the start of the preseason, he is a real footballer and he has worked hard and now he is reaping the rewards for that dedication,” said Walters.
“He has been playing some fantastic footy in Cup and then he has stepped up when we have called on him in first grade and done a great job for his team.”
Walters also added that Sailor’s dad Wendell and his extended family would be proud that the Sailor name is associated with the Broncos again.
“He brings a lot off the field as well around the group and I’m sure his dad (Wendell) and all his family will be filled with pride that he is continuing on their legacy here at the Broncos – it’s just a really good news story,” continued Walters.
