Josh Hodgson will, unfortunately, not be able to retire on his own terms with the Parramatta Eels hooker forced into early medical retirement.

Hodgson, who has had a lengthy career across both the NRL and Superleague, made the decision after consultation with the club and doctors.

The season ending injury is not the last we’ll see of Hodgson at the Eels with the veteran to fans over as Assistant Coaching Director for the Elite Pathways Program.

Although a tough decision, Hodgson knows that it is the right one.

“I’d like to thank every Club I’ve represented in England and Australia and all the people I’ve worked with.

“The staff behind the scenes, performance specialists, administrators, coaches and most importantly my teammates.

“Ï also want to thank the rugby league members and fans who we love playing in front of, through all the ups and downs.”

Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill believes Hodgson’s transition to the coaching pathways will be the next step in his career.

“Josh will add great value in his coaching role at the Eels as he has incredible knowledge of the game, a unique ability to communicate the technical elements and has a relatable experience to share with our players.” said O’Neill.
