Maika Sivo and former coach Brad Arthur will link up yet again, this time in England, with the Fijian winger signing a three-year deal with the Leeds Rhinos.
Despite his ups and downs with Parramatta Eels fans, Sivo’s try-scoring prowess and presence cannot be denied as Mark O’Neill, the Eels General Manager of Football, wished him the best.
“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Maika, his partner Korina, and his family for their time with us,” O’Neill said.
“We wish them all the very best in their future endeavors, both in rugby league and beyond.”
With 104 NRL tries in just 115 NRL games, Sivo’s record speaks for itself as Arthur believes the Fijian will quickly become a favourite among Rhinos fans.
“I am really pleased to have Maika on board for next season,” Arthur said.
“He is a quality player but most importantly he is a quality person as well.”
It was Arthur who brought Sivo to the Eels and he believes now is the time for him to shine in the Super League.
I have watched him grow and improve over recent years and I think the move to Leeds and a new competition in Super League is a perfect opportunity for him,” Arthur continued.
“He was loved by the fans at Parramatta and I think the Leeds fans will enjoy watching him, he is the type of player who gets you on your feet when he runs with the ball.”
Sivo himself said that when Brad came calling, it was an easy decision for him.
“Brad is a big part of who and where I am today,” Sivo said.
“When he flicked me the message to ask if I wanted to come to Leeds, I said ‘I’m coming’!
“He helped me along the way with my footy career and he’s very close to my family too.
“It was a big decision for me and my partner to come to the other side of the world. We were talking about it but straight away we were excited for the challenge ahead and we’re looking forward to it.”
Sivo went on record and said he would not play against any other NRL side and he will forever value the Eels no matter where he goes.
“Parramatta will always have a very special place in my heart because of what the club has given me for a long time,” Sivo continued.
“I always said I wouldn’t wear any other colours and I can keep that promise at Leeds Rhinos!”
