The Brisbane Broncos have opted to retain veteran Martin Taupau as he signs on with the club for the 2025 season.

With 255 NRL games to his name and 33 tests for New Zealand, Taupau’s retention is one he is excited about, for he gets to mentor and nurture the next generation of forwards.

“Having an extended contract at this stage of my career means a lot to me,” Taupau said.

“This contract is more than just another season. Personally, it represents the trust that my team and fans have in me to continue contributing, both on and off the field.

“It’s also a chance for me to mentor younger players and pass on the lessons I’ve learned, hoping to inspire them the same way I was inspired when I first started.”

Taupau gave credit to his family for their love and support and it is them who keep him going.

“My wife and kids are my biggest supporters, and they’re a huge part of what keeps me going, both on and off the field,” Taupau continued.

“Family is everything to me and having them by my side makes every experience and achievement that much more meaningful.”

Taupau will also reunite with Michael Maguire who was coach of the Kiwi side while Taupau played several tests.

“I’m genuinely excited about this new chapter under Madge,” the prop said.

“His track record speaks volumes, and his commitment to excellence aligns perfectly with my personal values and our team’s goals.

“We understand that achieving success requires dedication and hard work, and we’re ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

“With Madge’s guidance, we’re confident in our ability to elevate our performance and make our fans proud.”
