Looking to build on their 2024 campaign that saw them perform well but just miss the finals, the Parramatta Eels have signed Black Fern Martha Mataele for two seasons.
Mataele, who is a powerful finisher in the Sevens format and a strong runner in the middle third in rugby, brings pedigree and strength to the Eels backline, something their wingers have perhaps lacked in the past.
Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill knows the value and pedigree that Mataele will bring to the Eels NRLW side.
“Martha is an exciting footballer who can light up the field with her speed and agility,” said Parramatta Eels Football General Manager, Mark O’Neill.
“Her talent will add an extra attacking threat and strengthen our backline. We’re excited to see her make an impact in the NRLW.”
It was back in 2019 when Mataele made her rugby debut with Canterbury, a team she enjoyed plenty of success at and with a new move on the horizon, Mataele is excited.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Parramatta Eels and bringing my skills to rugby league,” said Martha Mataele.
“The Eels are a growing force in the NRLW, and I’m excited to take on this new chapter in my career.”
Mataele is keen to help the growth and development of the next generation and looks forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
“I’m passionate about supporting the growth of women’s sport and leaving a legacy that inspires others to step up and take on new challenges,” Mataele continued.
