The mid-season transfers have continued, as Richie Fa’aoso is released by the Newcastle Knights to join the Melbourne Storm effective immediately, for the remainder of the 2012 NRL season.
Fa’aoso, who has been in and out of the Knights side this season, has played 99 games for the club – with Knights CEO Matt Gidley sad to see him leave, though he wishes him the best for the future.
“Richie has been great for our Club during his five years here,†CEO Matt Gidley said.
“Richie has been an extremely popular member of our team and a significant contributor to many of our victories both on and off the field.
“We wish Richie the best of luck throughout the remainder of his career.â€
For Fa’aoso himself, he enjoyed his time at the Knights, and looks forward to his time ahead with the Storm.
“I have had a ball at the Knights and I will always have great mates here,†Fa’aoso said.
“I thank the Knights for the opportunity and to everyone for their efforts; the coaches, my teammates, the trainers, just everyone at the Club for all they have done for me.
“Wayne (Bennett) was great to give me a chance at the start of the season and I am disappointed I was unable to make the most of it.
“I also want to say thank you to all of the Knights fans for your support.
“The time is right for me to move on and I wish the Knights all the best for the rest of the season and beyond.â€
From the Storm’s perspective, General Manager Frank Ponissi said that the club welcome the signing of Fa’aoso to their squad.
“An opportunity came up to add some depth to our forward stocks as we come into the important final stage of the season,†Ponissi said.
“We see Richie’s signing as a chance to bring some further experience and strength to our roster.â€
